We’re well into festival season here. The weather is perfect and Jazz Fest and its associated events are happening all across the city. Although a lot of the city’s main festivals do happen in the Spring, there are plenty of Summer (and beyond!) events that you might want to think about booking a room for.
For example, in early July (from the 4th), Essence Festival celebrates its 30th year! As well as the musical line-ups, there are dozens of showcases, demonstrations and talks to attend, with themes including everything from cinema to cookery to self help. The weather may have heated up by August, but it’s also home to one of New Orleans locals’ favorite festivals: Summer Satchmo Fest. Taking place on August 3rd weekend this year, the two-day celebration is dedicated to honoring Louis Armstrong, and features two stages of music, a mouth-watering culinary lineup, and a fascinating lecture series to educate guests on Armstrong’s history and enduring impact. If you’re a super-organized traveler, you might even want to look further ahead to the Fall, when there’s a choice of festivals worth traveling into town for. Halloween is very special in New Orleans, of course, but you might also want to consider The Nola Funk Fest, Bayou Bacchanal and the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival.
